Excellent talk and experiment!!!! I'm not completely sure how you can attribute a unique soil depth value to a species for each soil core, I guess it is depth with the closest value of d18O, but this should give you 1 value per soil core, while possibly even the species will take up water from range of depths, even within a given "soil core". Anyway, the approximation is great, the new method by Tomas Hajek sounds great as well and the results are exciting!
